This started out as a prompt to cure my writer's block but somehow it turned into a short novel along the way. I'm a little worried that I'm not allowed to post this in here due to the lenght (or lack of lenght) of the story. It's not a story from a fandom, it's completely original.

Anyway, enjoy!

Bad luck

Nevin had never been one with luck. That was the way it had always been and he had come to accept those terms a long time ago. But the unfairness of the situation was still something that irked him greatly, something that made his chest ache whenever he thought about it.

It lay there, mocking him for his weakness. He couldn’t stand to look at it but he knew that he had to face it sooner or later. She always took pleasure in pushing his buttons and even after everything was over she managed to do it. He sighed and closed his eyes.

It had partly been his fault. If he hadn’t been so weak, if he hadn’t been so slow, if he hadn’t been paralyzed with fear, none of this would have happened.

The hassle eyes kept glancing at the bed, but never on the object of his pain. When it had happened, when she had thrown her own life away for a complete stranger, he could do nothing but watch and it had felt horrible. It had all happened so fast and he had been to frightened to do anything. The way those soft lips had shouted out before pushing the little schoolgirl out of the way from the car, it was unfair.

Why had she done it? Why throw away something as beautiful and pure as her life? They swore to be together forever, to always hold each other company and support each other through hard times. Where was she now when he needed her the most? Didn’t she know that he couldn’t go on without her by his side?

It was his fault that she had died. It was his bad luck. It was his weakness that caused this and now, the necklace that she had worn everyday laid there on the bedspread innocently, like nothing was wrong. That morning that ended her life, she had asked him if she should wear the necklace to her brother’s party and he had said no. He had told her not to put on her good luck necklace and faith had decided to pull a fast one on him.

He had slept alone in that bed for six months now feeling the loneliness and loss of her warm body and soothing words. Then how had that necklace gotten there? He had been so sure that he would never ever have to face it again. Well, it was just his luck.

- End

that seems to be a kick in the dick, but well written.
