Good choice of favourite there spike... All of them isn't really choosing. I like zombie ones the best probably with 28 Days Later and the '... of the Dead' series being interesting. 'The Thing' was pretty good though with the tension of guessing who was who, as was The Descent which I guess would fall under monsters. The category with the most that I like though is zombie.

Alien,Monster,Zombie and Werewolves......you should have made the poll Multiple choice though IMO

"The Thing" was an awesome movie and "28 days later" was cool in that I think it was the first movie to use fast moving zombies...than "Dawn of the Dead" (2004)...
I guess mine would be Other...stuff like The Exorcist and Pet Semetary, which I can't ready caterogize are some of the my favourite Horror films, Pet Semetary was pretty damn creepy...

Never watched that. I remember watching Salem's Lot (I think that was it's name) when I was like 10 and that scared the shit out of me. That has been the only film that scared me but I thought the 6th Sense was pretty good (as well as the ones I mentioned before).

I prefer zombie flicks just for the accessibility of them, they are easy to sit down and enjoy without having to think so much. However there are some great films in the other categories

AvP wasn't bad, but I prefer other shows.
Zombie flicks are usually fun bloody romps that you should enjoy with friends (Shaun of the dead, for instance), while monster movies tend to border on unwatchable sometimes (you know, the B-grade stuff and below).
And if you think watching a Stephen King inspired movie is bad, wait till you read the books. I read the novel. I read the Shining, Christine and Night Shift before I was 10. Had nightmares for a long time after that.
I like alien-like kind of horror movies. The other options seem kinda old-fashion to me, haha. I grew tired and scared of psycho-killers because I became really paranoid. But all together I avoid all kinds of horror movies except for creepy ones like aliens.
Yexley
09-08-2007, 10:55 AM
I just watched 28 Weeks Later and it was a bit of a let down. Stuff like Scream and other psycho killer movies get pretty repetitive quickly as they are all too predictable. Why things like The Thing and Sixth Sense are good as they are different from most other films in the horror genre.
phoenixshinigami
09-08-2007, 11:13 AM
Psycho Killer movies, they have that horror that will make you jump out your seat in fear.
Yexley
09-08-2007, 11:14 AM
No way! They are all so predictable and you can tell when the killer is going to appear pretty much every time. They all have similar music sequences for the killer attacking as well. Original horrors are the best. The Descent was cool.

@ seanjohn: it isn't really that scary but I was about 10 when I watched it so I found it scary. There is a scene where vampire kids float outside a kids window and take him away. That just freaked me out because I was only 10. Not scary at all now I'm afraid. No films are properly scary imo.

I love horror movies of pretty much any kind, and I can't really pick anything from the poll list. My favorite ones are those that realy build up the atmospherics to create an overall emotional effect instead of those that use quick shocks/gore to give you a sudden scare (although I do like those too). In that sense, I tend to like slasher movies less than other horror types just because they tend to rely on the sorts of things that I don't find as engaging.
Some of my favorite horror movies:
Alien
The Descent
3... Extremes
Hellraiser
Tésis

Those are all great choices on the list definitely. But I have to admit enjoying psycho killer movies. Despite the fact they are supposed to be scary, the mindless gore factor turns them into comedies for me. I do get a kick at how some of the victims, meet their demise. Films such as Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween were (and still are) classics, which set the bar for the “80's slasher” scene.
Even though the craze sort of died off in certain aspects, I continue to watch flicks like that from time to time - if only to remember the good old days.

I picked Psycho Killer haha, but really it's all good. To be honest when it comes to horror movies, I could care less about the story. As long as it has sick death scenes, I'll be good.
ghost and Psycho Killer's movies are usually fun.
also, i really enjoyed the re-make of dawn of the dead with running zombies.
Zombie Flicks. It's just something about the zombies that make me laugh. Other than that I like all horror "types".

Zombie movies definitely scare the shit out of me, they just give me the creeps. But so do movies like The Hills Have Eyes and Texas Chainsaw, its just the thought that they could actually happen in real life that scare me so. I have like a fear of road trips now, lol.
Anyone remember old school shows like Night Gallery and Tales from the Crypt?

04-11-2008, 07:23 PM
Zombie films... I sometimes have random zombie dreams with me and my friends trying to survive the mass hordes in the UK... usually ends up with one of my mates dying then i get with his girlfriend... oh well...
If im looking for a real good scare I'll go watch some J-horror or asian horror in general. Ringu fucked me over big time... and i still maintain A Tale of Two Sisters one of the freakiest movies ever made... i quite want to go and see Shutter at the cinema....
I notice a distinct lack of Werewolf votes... can I recomend Dogsoldiers? It was kick ass. I live out in the countryside in a village nestled at the foot of a group of hills and I always look over my shoulder and pace it back to my house after dark on full moon nights...

Always been a fan of vampires. Like Fright Night and Lost Boys. Always thought they were good.
Scariest tho, at least when I was a kid, was the movies with Jason, Freddy, Michael Myers and Chucky.
When a young tike, my best friend and favorite thing was my MY BUDDY doll. I caught a sneak peek of Child's Play when my mom was watching it. My best friend and I parted ways after that. : ( lol.
huh... I like the ones with vampires, werewolves, monsters etc... but they aren't nearly as scary as the psycho killer ones... those stories might actually happen... that's why they have much deeper impact on me :oh:

While i think the best horror movies are the ones with psycho killers, i voted for the haunting ones. If i want to get scared from watching a horror movie i'll see something about the supernatural, but if i want to see a good horror movie i'll watch something like The silence of the lambs, Psycho, American Psycho which is closer to other genres like drama or psychological movies. As a horror i also enjoy allien movies.
DarkBunny
05-31-2009, 07:34 AM
haunting movies^___________________^i want to see something supernaturally scary, although films like silence of the lambs,American Psycho and hannibal can be quite good at times too, ones with monsters are usually fairly meh, aliens can be pretty good and Psychological ones are good at times too.
pumpkin13
05-31-2009, 07:36 AM
I agree with Falariel, the asians do horror SO well. Tale of Two Sisters is probably the scariest movie i've seen, the bedroom scene (if you've seen it you'll know what i mean) freaked the shit out of me, was like x10 worse than Sadako coming out of the TV in the Ring. Didn't help either that by the end of the movie I still had no idea what the shit was going on.
However I do enjoy psycho movies as well, with the aforementioned there's obviously the creepy factor, but with psycho movies, there's the realistic element. Normally the victims that get tortured or dismembered in excessively voilent or gory ways are just normal everyday people. They haven't done anything wrong (sometimes they have) or anything to deserve their nasty end, and it could just as easily happen to you as you walk down the street. Thats one of the the things about the Saw movies. The people taken off the street in the Saw movies aren't actually that abnormal people, the conditions for you to be taken can be really quite lax or mediochre, if you've got a secret in your life, which most of us have, even if its a really small inconsequential one, you're up for Sawdom...
That actually kinda applies to Asian horror movies too. I've found that the main difference between Western and Asian horror movies is that in Western Horror those being killed are often done so because throughout the course of the movie they have either done something wrong or demonstrated an unvirtuous character trait, such as being overly arrogant, or not caring about others etc etc, whereas those that survive have often done something good throughout the course of the movie. Asian horror doesn't give a flying fanny who you are, you could me Mother Theresa but if you go into that house or watch that tape you're fcked, no matter how good you've been.
Falariel
05-31-2009, 09:04 AM
^ yeah, i agree, the difference between western and asian is that, asian is more real and when you watch their films, they're like telling you that 'it can happen to anyone, even you'. and western films has more fiction in them, more on entertaining the viewers.
Psycho killer movies are good but yeah I also like the ghost/haunting ones as well.

I love all horror movies, and also intense suspense movies too, but some of my fav's are, Phantasm, original Alien, Sleepy Hollow, The Exorcist, the Shining, Rosemary's Baby, Halloween, Disturbia, Buried Alive, the Ring, Signs, Hostel, RE1 & 2, the majority of the Saw series, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Grudge, and Vacancy, oh and Devil's Tree (it's a short film but scary, very scary) and Frontier(s)*also, it's subbed* but well well worth it, and my last pick is Intensity, on cable on the movie channels, it's in 2 parts....enjoy.....and there's a whole lot more, but, i'm pretty tired...(the majority of the older movies have been on tv so many times, that they no longer scare one anymore, unless it's your first time watching it)
