Duo was the first pilot to interact with Heero and I think he played a big part in calming a bit of Heero's kill drive. Even though Duo was the God of Death he still had a soft side and didn't go out of his way to hurt innocent people. Plus he provided much comic relief during stressful times!

A fascinating study in contradictions, Duo Maxwell is.
He's got the usual tragic/traumatizing even that usually causes either more or less constant angsting(Wait...no, I'm drawing a blank), a lack of emotion altogether(Heero), or delusions of grandeur that somehow involve the destruction of a large number of people(Zechs)...
And yet, he's a riot. He's always joking about someone or something, or almost always.
He's the funniest, most happy-go-lucky, SANEST of the bunch, probably the most ALIVE, in terms of going about day-to-day...
And he's the self-appointed God of Death of the group.

Love the guy. Don't like the original Deathscythe Hell so much, love D-Hell Custom and the original Deathscythe. ESPECIALLY the original.

Duo is one of my most favorite Gundam characters since he knows when to take it easy and when to actually start taking a fight seriously. To me he was one of the many reasons why Gundam Wing kicked so much ass. Unique Gundam with a unique pilot to match it. Though it did make me laugh alot when the other's just tortured him and leave him out of a situation or leave him behind.

Deathscythe is a sick mobile suit, out of all the ones on G-Wing, that one is my favorite. Besides he was the one that made everyone feel at ease with his whimsical attitude.
