They are considered better than normal Funnels, can shield stuff, fire with Beam Sabre technology and underly direct mind control. The only drawback is that it has to be a Newtype to use them.

See those consecutive explosions that occure in the BG shortly after Lalah's spirit flashes by? They depict random units that (despite not actually existing) get sniped off by Amuro's Fin Funnels just cuz he felt like it.

(Similiar to the non-existant stuff being destroyed as collateral damage for Super Inazuma Kick and the non-existant planets being destroyed by Ideon and Gan Eden).
