Relena Darlin: hate her? Like her? why?

I like Relena. I see her as the character who grew the most over the entire span of Gundam Wing (including Endless Waltz). So why do people hate her so much? I guess I'm calling out to the Relena-haters. She is annoying at first, but the girl does change, immensely. So why the hate?

I searched the forums, didn't find any Relena posts, so here it is.

Cuz she is dumb as shit, she preached pacifism from start to finish and yet people fought from start to finish. She actually thought Treize was sincere when he put her in power and he was using her the whole fucking time and she didnt realize it until Treize became the power. Then while preaching pacifism she deployed her own mobile suits. She is just as stupid as Lacus. I dont know why they decided to make females utterly useless in these AU shows. They ruined Endless Waltz by focusing on the two worst characters, Relena and Quatre.

Well, in the beginning of the show, she was pretty violent. She saw Heero as an example and tried to follow it. Then she found out about her past, and got intot he pacifism, and like most teenagers, she was very idealistic. In EW, she ends up leading the people into battle, so she is not longer a pacifist. Plus she changed her name back to Darlin, and turned away from the Peacecraft ways of thought.

really cuz I thought she was standing in a bunker being a prisoner, nearly getting killed by Heero. I would hardly call that leading.

In the end she made the broadcast that was calling out for people to stand up against what was happening, and when Mariemeia (or however you spell it) questioned her, she said she wasn't going to follow pacifism.

I saw a real growth in her character from start to finish, I'm just wondering why others don't see it. Perhaps they are blinded by how annoying she was at first, but she does change.

Relena was a very determined young woman.
Although she seemed a bit annoying at first, I can tell she was developing some sort of personality that would later play out in the series, and probably in Endless Waltz.
Experiencing the death of her father, and meeting Heero shaped her to who she was in the end.

She was a ok character and Aya no offense but theres no character thats as big of a bitch was Flay was seriously I wanted to be the one that killed her.

My opinion? I liked Relena in Endless Waltz. Thought it was cool how she bitch-slapped that brat Mariemaia.
In the series? Won't say I HATED her. The only Gundam AU female character I really hate was Lacus Clyne, and that only in Seed Destiny, not the original.
I will say that I didn't like her, as she struck me as naive in the extreme and bordering on stupid. Finally grew out of her "lol, I have a crush on the crazy kid in spandex and I want him to kill me" phase, which was good, but didn't really start getting interesting until after the whole "Relena, Queen of the World/Treize's puppet" phase (That dude, incidentally, was a badass IMO...especially since he managed it without trying)

Now Dorothy was fun, until they turned her into Zechs's flunky. Though she was back to being cool again in EW, so I'm not complaining.
(Who could roll up in a gold-plated vehicle of ANY kinda and make it work? Gotta love that...)

Relena is one of the better female characters that I have seen in the Gundam Series. She’s very determined, kind hearted, a great speaker when it comes to rallying people (that and she’s not a cry baby whore like other Gundam females I seen in the resent Seed). Most important thing I like about Relena is that she has guts I mean you have to have guts in order to fall in love with a person that won’t hesitate to kill you to get the job done (or do other crazy things that will seem like suicide in our eyes).

The Relena hate phenomen didn't come from the void or something, I've seen people talk stuff like "Gundam W would be ~30% more interesting if Relena would be on fire everytime she is displayed". Aside of singular character developement at the very beginning and at the very end (when she actually does stuff, yay!), she's pretty much just around to annoy everyone and stand on the sidelines. And Fllay still sucks more because relena did stuff (gasp!), Fllay only sorta got some halfass excuses later on and died.

I hated her. She was so annoying and useless. True she made Heero soft and GW would be totally different if he did kill her right off but seriously. Everything about her just made me dislike her more.

My biggest issue with Relena through out the whole of Gundam Wing was how little power she had. As a leading character she time and time again managed to fulfill the role of "damsel in distress". As has been mentioned, she was cooler in EW where she actually seemed to be a resolute individual, but it got ruined again where she was at the Mansion and she's just starting despondently out the window and says "Heero...". Seriously female characters in Gundam series really need to be a bit stronger... like maybe actually getting to be in Gundams more than a few scattered times.

i really like it smetimes how she behaves and i also like her relationship with Heero, but sometimes her pacifism or so is just fucking annoying
