It is true that Kishi is making Pein look like the ultimate Ninja....but....Isn't Pein getting his orders from Tobi/Madara??? Why would such a strong, fearless and fearsome nin take orders from another? Only one reasonable answer, Tobi/Madara is stronger than Pein, hell he might be stronger than Pein and Konan put together. What makes Tobi so strong, well I think it is obvious, the Sharingan. Every step of the way, ever since the time skip, we have been shown again and agin that the Sharingan is unbeaten....even those who had previous encounters with it and spent years preparing to defeat it, still couldn't manage to, ex: Orochimaru and Deidara. Oro was defeat by Sasuke, he was ill and Sasuke knew most of his stuff, yet it was left clear to us that Oro knew what he was up against but still was not able to defeat it in his second encounter. Sasuke knew nothing about Deidara, a fact that gave Deidara instant advantage...not only that but Deidar got some help from Tobi, although negligible, still it had its effect on the battle....and here we see once again how Deidar fell for the Sharingan again. It is time people realized that the only a Sharingan user can beat another Sharingan user....but that is not entirely true...
There is the story of the 1st Hokage and Madara....There is still the mystery of the Whirlpool clan the Uzumaki, they might have a blood line limit that can counter the sharingan, and there is the Namikaze mystery. The answer to defeat an Uchiha must lie between the Uzumaki, Namikaze and the 1st hokage....by the way do we even know what Tsunade's last name is? or the 1st hokage? To summarize, no matter how much Kishi is trying to hype Pein's strength, taking orders from a sharingan user must mean that Pein< Sharingan. Let's not forget how Kakashi trembeled from Oro, and we all saw how Oro ended up

I think that you are seriously underestimating Pain. his six bodies make him almost invulnerable. Hell, we still haven't seen the original Nagato. It seems to me that Pain and Madara are working together, each of them trying to use the other. If Madara was so awesome, he wouldn't even bother with Pain and just go conquer the world with his pinkie. Bottom line, Madara is (as any sensible person would be) wary of Pain's rather ridiculous abilities. He whipped Jiraiya, for Christ's sakes!

I won't deny that the Sharingan is powerful, but I think that you are overrating it. The regular one would be almost useless against 6 bodies, and even Mangekyo might have a problem hitting 6 people at once.

Third, Deidara did beat the Sharingan genjutsu, but he got Pokemon'd.

I don't think you need a kekkei genkai to beat a sharingan, you just have to know your stuff. Look at Yondaime. I be he could have beaten Itachi, and he may or may not have faced Madara directly.

I have to agree with the poster above. Rinnegan is more versatile, efficient, crazy, etc than the Sharingarn and tbh I don't think Pein even used his FULL abilities yet. I don't think ONE person could beat him. Although maybe more than one talented ninja could.

only deidara spent years on countering one ability of sharingan(genjutsu). haven't read any chapters saying oro did the same. deidara didn't lose to sharingan, he lost to sasuke's fortress of plotkai.

he was low on chakra and yet was able to summon oro's pet snake thing and still perform some unexplained time space jutsu allowing him to shield himself in that things body.

oro was half dead, pretty sure if sasuke waited 10 min he would've walked in to find a blood covered dead oro. that was another amazing victory for sharingan:amused:

anyway, we don't know the full extent of rinnengan so can't say which is actually better. although i do think it would be most difficult to defeat the rinnengan simply because of how little information is known about it in the shinobi world
