View Full Version : Do you have a job?

So this is a simple discussion thread, if you have a job talking about it. Talk about what you do, how your co-workers act. Even talking about how your boss is a dick is fair game.

Guess I'll start with myself, I'm currently working during the summer at an animation studio, I'm in charge of the marketing and promotion.

I just barely turned 16, so I've been filling out applications like crazy.
Right now I'm hoping I work at subway, but My deam job is to work at this skateshop a few blocks away from where I live :)

Nice well good luck with your applications. I'm really hoping that one day I can open up a local comic shop or something. I really want to be like the cool shop owner type.

I just went to my first interview yesterday and got the job.
I'm going to be a cashier at H-E-B...it's nothing amazing ($8/hr) but it's my first job so I'm not gonna complain.
I met my boss during the interview and he seemed like a nice guy.

I have just finished my uni access course, so before I can join the magnificent institution, I have to find myself a job for summer. I definitely don't feel like it, after a great year of just studying I have to go back to some crappy job. The best job I had so far was in a call centre, also did things like KPing, strawberries, bakery, etc. I just need to survive for two damned months...

so weird you say that because i made that comment to my friend the other day at HEB...and hot redheads ftw

i have a job doing land surveying. its pretty good, i usually make a little under a grand every 2 weeks, but im like the lowest paid person at the company cuz im still an intern. but once i graduate in august ill get a big raise. its a cool job its pretty much a job for people who change their mind, like if i want to be in the office i work in the office and if i want to work out in the field i do so its just whatever you want to do.

Civilian wise my usual job was carpentry. Since I took my money under the table (20/hr if you're curious, no taxes obv) I have no documented experience and with the housing market crash I'm pretty much relegated to piss poor regular shit jobs.

Army natl guard I'm a combat engineer, deal with mine warfare, mobility and counter-mobility operations, standard infantry warfare such as clearing houses, and demolitions.

A deployment to a combat zone would net me about 4 grand a month tax free right now.

I worked at a call centre, drove me so insane. People can be bitches.

And then I had a temporary job as a retail cosmetics consultant.

Now I'm trying to choose between getting some decent qualifications in make up and beauty so I can work somewhere nicer as a retail cosmetics consultant. Or stick with my original qualifications in business and customer contact and do some admin type thing.

But I'm a full time student at uni and for the most part, I really don't want to be working right now. And if I did, I want to work somewhere I enjoy.

i'm a dental lab tech assistant. the difference between a dental assistant and what i am is that i'm not actually in the dentist's office. i work at a dental lab where we make the stuff that dentists use in their work like dentures, custom mouth guards, molds, retainers, etc. it's pretty good pay to cuz we rn't salaried or paid by the hour, its by how many "jobs" we do which can earn us any where from $15-$450 a job depending on what work we have to do on it. also we get about 10-12 "jobs" per day so its pretty rewarding. lol, my boss though is romanian so i can't understand one word of his english, but he buys me stuff for whenever i finish my "jobs" ahead of scheldule, so i just smile and nod :)

With the economy the way it is jobs are nil in my area. However I did get lucky and work under the table for this elderly lady suffering with chemo. I get 25$ each time. However, she never lets me "help" or "clean" by myself. Last time I got paid. I wiped off 2 ceiling fans, moved a chair from down stairs to upstairs, and ran the vaccume in 1 room that she asked. That was it. I'm not complaining, but I feel bad that she won't let me do more for her to earn the money.

I'm a regional manager. I work for a company that provides security and concierge services to residential and corporate clients. I'm in charge of about 95 +/- people with 27 sites.

Sadly, you don't always get the best personnel for this field. But at the same time you can get individuals who are in college, who do an excellent job and want the positive recommendation for future careers. You also get retired persons, who have an excellent work ethic. Its the people in the middle who typically cause the most problems.

Some sites have supervisors or managers running them, but the majority of sites are directly under my and my boss' control. We also meet with clients to get their feedback on how to improve services.

It's not the best paying job, most contract security companies do not pay that well. But the experience in managing multiple sites and a large number of personnel is second to none. If I don't get a police job in the near future I will probably take my experience and move back to in-house security at a hotel as a director and make more money.

I received my bachelor of arts in Criminal Justice. Depending on where my career takes me will determine what I do for my Masters.
