Attention!

Every one that is physically hurt or wants to physically hurt themselves because of an actors voice needs to see a psychiatrist.

That is all.

That made me laugh, now let me make you laugh. "I hear voices and right now they don't like you." I saw that on a T-shirt, just thought I would share it with you.

Does any one else not like Gin's voice other than me! It might just be the tone of voice they have his English voice actor speak with but it really agravates me.

I like all the voices now. But at first I didn't like Renji's. But it grew on me and I think it suits him, same with Kenpachi's.

All their voices are annoying.....Despite that even though their are some voices that I dislike I can deal with them but Ulquiorra and Grimmjow better have goods voices or I'm going to be totally pissed. Not a fan of Isshin's voice...it sounds a little too forced. Renji's is annoying, Hichigo's is weird, and Rukia's proves even more that she's a transvestite. :P

If u played that crappy Bleach game that came out for the Wii you'll see that the voice actors for Grimmjow and Ulq suck.And from what iv'e heard their gonna stick with the VA's they used to voice both of them for that game and use them to voice the dub.

But On-topic the voice i hated was Renji's and Kons they got me freaking pissed.

Some of the voices in the dub are okay, but I agree with the consensus that Renji's voice is weird. I can't stand the way he says Abarai and Zabimaru. I actually cringe anytime anyone says any Japanese rooted word or name. lol Chad sounds like he's perpetually stoned as well. My biggest complaint about the Bleach dub is that the VA who does Ichigo is in every freaking English dub! He was Vash in Trigun, and if I'm not mistaken, he is doing Lelouch's voice in the Code Geass dub that is playing on AS right now. Find a bigger pool of voice-over talent, for god's sake.

I HATE Kyoraku's dub voice. I can stand almost anyone else, even if I don't like them (*glares at Renji*), but Kyoraku's voice sucks so badly it makes me want to throw something.
Hanataro's voice annoys me, but he annoyed me in the original too so that's okay. He's supposed to sound annoying.

Kyoraku = WORST voice in the Bleach dub by far (I REFUSE point-blank to rewatch the Bount Arc except for that very last episode because Kariya's death is so damn hilarious, so until then I'm passing on the Bleach dub.

Hitsugaya's is halfway-decent even if it doesn't fit the character AT ALL. They should've got Vic Mignona.(or however the fuck it's spelled - the guy who voiced Romi Paku's other angry midget anime character)

I'm an enormous fan of dubs. a dub has to be horrible, downright horrible, for me to openly dislike it.

Bleach isn't that bad, but it's the closest I've seen in a while.

These are the voices I disliked enough to complain about:

Renji-A popular complaint in this thread from what I can see, I have no qualms with his talent as an actor, I just have a hard time picturing Renji sounding like that. Bear in mind I've seen virtually zero episodes involving Renji in sub. I'm speaking as a manga reader viewing the anime.

Urahara- The exact opposite complaint. The man's voice fits Urahara perfectly, but his acting is atrocious. He fumbles through some of Urahara's more emotional lines (such as his appology to Ichigo after the SS storyarc) and tends to be monotonous in his delivery of urahara's less memorable dialogue.

These are just my opinions though. There are a lot of well done voices in the dub as well, by that same opinion.

Whenever it appears on Cartoon Network, no matter what character is on the screen, my ears bleed the moment I see what character the voice is coming out of. Oh, the frightening moments when I turned on the TV and that's what was on...oh.

And if anyone ever sees Vic Mignogna at a con aka is able to stand waiting in line to say 'hi' to him, please tell him he is saying Ikkaku wrong. My favorite character...can't even say his name. IK-KAH-CHOU? It sounds like he's choking.

Wow!, how come the voice actors and directors get all the blame?. These people are simply doing their jobs, if anyone deserves the blame it's the networks or media head's like Viz. well at least whoever is in charge of casting the voice over actors. They simply don't put enough emphasis in finding different actors for the variety of anime that is produced. But what else can you expect from us americans we like getting the job done cheap, quick, and simple. I say if you dislike the dubbed version so much then do what most do instead of complaining just don't watch it.

dubbing a series vastly expands the audience the product appeals to. While the original VAs are usually able to perform a better reading, to be certain (for reasons I addressed in a different thread) it's shallow and childish to cling to a narrow-minded "Dubs are the seed of Lucifer created by evil corportations to make my beloved anime impure!" (This is an exageration I'm certain, and I don't mean to imply that anyone seriously believes it, but it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of anime fans... especially among the younger generation... come close to it.)

The world revolves around money. Dubs cost money. Anime companies wouldn't spend the money dubbing a product if they didn't feel there was a need to.

-as usual, all of this is opinion.

Agreed, all the voice actors for the dubs are horrible. The subbed are way better and also look like they come fron the character they are portraying. The translations in the subs are also much better and don't come off so lame. Honestly after watching the subs for so long it just sounds wrong to not hear them in japenese.

totally agree but Gin and Hitsugaya are really bad. In my opinion, most dub actors sound like they're putting no feeling into what they're saying.

heres the question...how many of us come from an acting background hmmm? can we honestly say we could do that much better of a job? and about the level of voice acting come on like it would be honestly possible to get top level actors...the profit margins are such that it would make it impossible to bring here then. im damn happy with what we get and it will just get better over time and with that im done.

I have to agree with you. It's a hard job to match the flaps, and I think the English voice actors do an excellent job of doing so. The only issue I have is when the director chooses someone who's voice doesn't match the tone and pitch of the original Japanese voice actor. Then again, with has many characters as Bleach has, it would be hard for one studio to make everyone happy.

But for the most part, I think most of the dub voices are fine, only a couple I truly can't stand or don't fit the character, but compared to some of the other dubs out there, it's not that bad

Yeah Hitsugaya should sound like a teenage kid, but in the dub he sounds more like he's in his 20's. Oh well, at least they didn't give him a squeaky high-pitched voice like 4kids Luffy.

The only dub voice I really don't like is Urahara. He sounds much more laid-back in the Japaneese version but in the American version he sounds all dark and serious.

I really can't say I like many of the dub voices but some that stick out are Renji and Byakuya. It might not be that their dub voices are especially bad by dub standards but I liked their original voices so much, it kinda made me hate them.

Byakuya's voice in the sub is just so perfect for the part, the English one seems just wrong. That and i really like his Japanese voice.
I suppose you can't really pick out any really annoying ones in any other way if you are used to the sub though.
I found Ichigo's voice to be dreadfully annoying when i first heard it.

I'm going to tell you people an interesting story.

I got my first taste of Bleach when it started to air on Adult Swim. And I absolutely hated it. I hated it with a passion. I use to go onto other message boards and proclaim my hatred for the anime known as Bleach. I thought the whole show was a mess. The story, the characters, the dubbing...everything was a huge mess.

Now, I never really gave Bleach a second try. I watched the first couple of episodes, decided it was terrible and left it at that. It wasn't until a good friend of mine gave me the suggestion to watch Bleach in it's original, non-dubbed japanese form. He said I would be amazed at just how much of a difference the voice of the characters would make. Which made sense to me because it's rare to find a really good dubbed over anime.

So, I checked out Bleach in Japanese and I absolutely loved it. How strange is that? Same exact show, only different voices, and that's when it hit me...the reason why I really hated Bleach in the beginning was because the American dubbed voice over work was terrible. None of the voices seemed to match the characters. Which in turn, caused the character to develop poorly.

I know it sounds crazy, but the Japanese voice over work just gives the show life. All the voices fit the characters. The voice actors who work on Bleach in Japan do an excellent job. They complete the characters. They give them emotions...they give them life. The American dubbed version feels lifeless, drawn out and robotic. It's terrible. And terrible voice over work can ruin any sort of animated creation.

All that being said, I HATE the American dubbed over version of Bleach. All the voice actors are terrible and they make the show terrible.

Rukia and Ichigo sound fine. Still of course love the Japanese va's much better Rukia's VA does her so well. Everyone else for the dub is not that good. But its a dub its ment to just be here and live with it, buy the dvd's in dual audio and your set. Not like there pricey when the box set comes out for each season. Anime volumes are pricey but not box sets. Who the hell doesnt have 40 bucks to blow here and there.

Oh god. Don't get me started on dubbed eps. IMO, all dubbed eps should be loaded into a space ship, blasted to Pluto and then we should destroy Pluto. And sometimes Dubbed is so crap, that I think we should round up all the dub voice actors (except the ones from DBZ, they were pro) and do something nasty to them.

That's right! Polish dub sucks and nothing more. I've never heard good Polish dub what's worse on our TV are only Pokemon, Shaman King, Yu Gi Oh or something like this with horrible dub. Crushing defeat! So if someone think that American dub is the worst that person is wrong! I had the pleasure to hear Chech dub (Bleach on YouTube), it's funny but better than Polish.

I was wondering what Eng. Dub. Voice Overs you guys dislike the most.

Me, I don't like Ikkaku and I don't like Renji! Every time I hear Renji yell Zabimaru it makes me want to hurt myself.

Like another poster said I think I got used to Renji's voice. When I went back and saw the first episode where Renji appeared, and his first battle with Ichigo I didn't like his voice, or the choice of words that the voice actor was using. By the end of the soul society arc I think he was doing a much better job with both the voice and choice of wording.

The most recent dub episode (86) both Chad and Rangiku had new voices which I think are much worse than they used to be, so I'd have to say one of those two (leaning toward the new Rangiku) is the voice I dislike at the moment.

i dont like the way in which dub ichigo talks. not so much his voice... it just doesnt seem emotional enough. also byakuya doesnt sound as arrogant with his english dub voice. dont rate it suits him. n kons voice is less irritating. i think they got it spot on with the jap original... irritating, slightly high pitched and plushy sounding...but his dub voice...i dono.. sounds too normal for me. n i cant stand Hitsugaya voice. it sounds so non-serious!

OK, I know I have only had one other post on this topic, but I've been reading some(or all) of the other post in this because I have that kind of time(leave me alone). And a lot of you people irritate me. I understand your opinions, but you still irritate me. So, here are some points. I've been watching anime for as long as I could speak, I know I'm only 19, but 12 or so years of anime gives you experience. Being a person with such a list under my belt, I've seen all kinds, subbed and dubbed, and my thought on such is this, dub is better because, hey! I'm an american, and I speak english, and another thing, none of any characters in any anime look japanese, so the japanese voices don't really work for me. They are not bad voices, thats not what I'm saying. They just don't work. On that note all the bleach voices in english work. They sound right to me and I don't have to read anything, which is how I think its supposed to be because the show ISN'T A BOOK! Don't take that as I don't read manga, because I do.Second topic. The voice actors have no feeling or emotion in their portrail of the characters. That is bullshit. I think that you as people have gotten used to the way japanese do it, and forgotten hey, we're americans, a.k.a cold heartless bastards. I'm surprised you remember what emotion is. The characters portrayed emotion better than you ever could. So get over it. Take Johnny Yong Bosch for example( the voice of Ichigo if your retarded) some may say he doesn't do well I say bull. He does better than you ever could, In his role as ichigo, and even more so his role as Lelouch Lamperouge in code geass, if you haven't watched that dubbed you should. you would see what I mean, or actually you shouldn't because you wouldn't even get it. To the people who like the dub of bleach and other such animes, good for you.

I'm not a fan of the english voices anyways, I don't think any of them really catch my attention like the japenese voice's do. Yea the above poster can say what he will but it's personal preference so just watch what you like.

Let me explain this to you in detail. If you are personally use to how the voices are in japanese or english then the opposite version of what you are use to will sound annoying or be out of place of what you are use to. Now take me for example, I started out watching bleach english dub, so I am use to the english cast. If I was to switch over to the japanese voicing then I would say that his voice sucks or her voice sucks and the same thing goes for, if I was first introduced to the japanese voices and then later on heard the english voices. So my point is, if you are use to a certain version of something and you become accustomed to it then you are going to detest and disagree with a different version of that something, and that goes for mostly all aspects in life. So keep that in mind when you're making judgements on what sucks and what doesn't.

I'll admit it took me awhile to get used to the original Japanese when I ran out of dubbed episodes, but it was more that I had a hard time distinguishing between character voices than anything. However, I will say I find Cloud and Kon rather annoying, but that's probably due to the combination of that voice and that personality.

No offense to any English dub actors but they can never really compare the voice acting of the the Japanese becuase mainly the Anime is MADE to be spoken in Japanese. That's why you always hear people complain about English dubbing and voice acting when the Anime isn't made to be spoken in English. Sure you can imitate it to a point were it isn't somewhat noticeable ,but if you've seen Japanese original dubbing you will definitely notice the difference.

For me it changes from anime to anime. Sometimes I like the dub and sometimes I like the subtitled. I actually started watching Bleach in English, but picked up with the subtitled around the SS arc. I personally like the sub much better. I'm pretty used to the english voices by now, and some of them have grown on me, but some still irritate me; like Renji, Byakuya, Kyoraku, old man Yama and Orihime... and why they have Vic Mignogna voicing Ikkaku instead of Hitsugaya I'll never understand

I prefer subs over dubs but I watch the dubs sometimes on Tv if I ever catch while flipping channels. I don't like Hitsu's voice or Ulquiorra's, both of them suck and the for the characters the voices aren't all that great.

There are a few characters who got a decent voice actor for the dub.

Shunsui, Grimmjow and Ulq are not among them.

I also have to agree with the general sentiment that the voice actor for Renji is fairly lackluster.

I actually think Grimmjow sounds pretty decent - not great, but not terrible either. Shawlong and Edorad sound pretty good too. Not sure about the others yet - still need to watch the latest two eps.

@B_K_E: Nope. They pronounce the "i" in "Grim" as an "e" sound, probably because they're trying to imitate the Japanese pronunciation - it sounds awkward, but technically it's correct.

Ok got to admit I find nothing wrong with the english dub but I think that could be because I first got hooked on Bleach by watching it on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. However, since I've started watching the original Sub version I can see where you are coming from. Most of the voices are really really different. But all in all I think both are pretty good. I don't like Kon's voice in english and I hate Rukia's voice in Japanese so I guess it's different for everyone.

I actually find that most of the voices in Bleach are really good. I like Rukias a lot and for some reason I think Ichigo's and Orihime's voices fit them as well. But I seriously dont like Kon's english voice at all. No wonder he gets stepped on all the time. :-D
Oh and Im not a huge fan of Grimmjow's voice either. I just prefer his Japanese voice better. In my opinion he isnt really as "threatening" in english.

I personally do not like Ulquirrio's voice in English. I don't think I spelled that right. xD

Anyways, His voice in English, it just sounds weird with his characters appearance. It just doesn't match up in my opinion.

Yeah, the voice just doesn't match up to his badass appearance, and Aizen's dub voice sound really wierd to me.

I just pray that the top three Espada and their fraccion voice-over's are done well.

I don't wanna sound rude, but I think IN MY OPINION! (please notice what is in capital and bold), that Rukia's voice annoys me... im not sure why... its just a little to manly for my taste... (god, i know im gonna get death threats for saying that...).and also, Hitsugaya's english voice, annoys me. i think its just to deep for a kid that short... the japanese original voice is a lot lot better in my opinion.

I hate Hitsugaya's voice too! I also dont like Orihime's voice. Fingernails on the blackboard of my mind. Rukia's voice sounds off to me too. And Finally the worst one for me is Gin's voice. It doesnt sound right to me. His Japanese voice is more fitting, and more awesome.

I figured Yumichika's voice would be at the top. It's not at all fitting, compared to his Jpn counter part. Also don't like Yama-jii all that well. I guess you could say I like the pre-dub version much better over the english one.

i screamed at the TV when i first heard grimmjows english voice all those weekends ago, rofl. he sounds like a 12-year-old KID to me. im starting to get used to it so its not as grating... but NO ONE beats suwabe junichi for grimmjow. nope. very sexy voice that man has.. mm!

i also dont like shinjis. i can tolerate it better than grimmjows... but it still doesnt really fit him as well.

hmm, i dont like hisagis either. he sounds a little nasal.

ukitake sounds too overly dramatic and i LOVE ukitake.

hitsugaya sounds too grown up lol.

renjis got on my DAMN nerves at the beginning but im also not bothered as much by it now.

I JUST PRAY they dont fuck up nel's voice. someone will have to die. lol

I hated Grimmjows voice too! I've gotten used to it to a point where I dont want to jump off a cliff when I hear it, but I love the Japanese voice. Generally for me though I always like the Japanese voices better, but I still put up with the DUB for the sake of my friends.

haha, yeah my friend and i usually have bleach saturdays and watch the english dub on adult swim, even though we've seen about all the japanese episodes.

she has the first three seasons on DVD, english dub. i want to get the whole dvd set myself sometime too... but im seriously considering just getting english subs so i can hear the MELODIOUS and sexy japanese voices. they all fit much better.

it soothes my bleeding ears :p

After last weeks episode my new least favorite voice is noittra it was awful and reminded me of shinji's and I hate that one too. All the other espada don't seem to bad. Nel's dub voice seems to deep for her its deeper than her adult form voice in the original jpn dialogue.

Ulquiorra (can't put my finger on it), Sayzel (too manly lol), I somehow expected Nnoitra's voice to sound the way it did. Zommimaru sounds like a wack rapper, and nothing like the philosophical type that was portrayed in the Manga (I haven't heard his Seiyu/Japanese voice actor).

Nel's voice was wierd, but it'll due at least she didn't sound like a chipmunk.

I like Ulquiorra's voice. It's not possible to do a voice devoid of emotion wrong.
The fact it came off as extra creepy with teh dub "little girl" line only seals the deal on why I like it.

And although Ukitake is my favorite character, his voice actor is only "eh". Sometimes he sounds good; other times he sounds too wimpish.

Dondochakka's voice to me is like nails on a chalkboard. I know he's supposed to sound and talk weird, but my oh my. I just don't like his voice or the way he talks. I got used to the weirdness after an episode or two in the Japanese version, but I don't see that happening soon with his English voice.

Definitely Uryuu's voice. The gave him the generic douchebag voice actor that's never played anyone remotely cool (until now) and it's just hard to take him seriously after he opens his mouth in the dubbed anime.

Even though the vizards have proven to be weaksauce and failrues, Shinji is the leader and thus highly likely the strongest, it makes sense for him to have one of the better voices even if it doesn't fit his humorous personality. Would you rather Shinji's voice be some 18 year old British kid since he's obviously based on a british/european punk?
