Didn't know Premiere Pro was that popular. While I was looking at different software, I personally found that Premiere Pro looked like the best one, but many people used Vegas, so I didn't know whether Vegas was actually better.

I'm looking for one that can do the most with the footage. Effects isn't a big deal to me compared to playing around with the episodes as much as possible.

lol well..actually sony vegas is better for sound (sound effects ) as for video editting... the best editors would chose premiere pro. I don't know about playing around with the episodes lol that should be one easy part..you can use other programs to cut only parts from them. premiere pro and after effects could be used both very easily in the same time and you can make much more unbelievable effects than you could make with vegas. maybe not all agree with me, but I still think this is the true. vegas is limited ..concerning vidoe editing. after effects for example...is freaking me out LOL

EDIT:
hey you're new here..have you made any AMVs? :D you can post the links here! and also... take care, many ppl around here aren't very nice with newbies so be careful not to get banned or something. :(

Hmm, guess I will try out Premiere then.

And no, I haven't made any AMVs, which is why I was poking around looking for good software. If I do get the software (And faster internet for raw downloads), then I want to give it a shot.

My first idea for one is an Ishida AMV. There isn't a lot of footage of him fighting, though, so this one might be tricky.

lol nah...you'll find enough scenes for an ishida AMV, you don't need too much. I'm usually happy when there is not so much footage because I wouldn't spend time choosing between them, I'd just use the only scene there is.

good luck!

I've also used Movie Maker up until now.

But I'm looking for something better, will probably try and get the new Adobe Premiere or something soon. The latest one I have is Premiere 6.5.

Vegas Pro is very good indeed.
Takes a little getting used to, but once you do, you'll wonder how you managed with Windows Movie Maker. Vegas is soooooooooo much easier and more convinent, plus you can do all sorts of fancy effects as well.

I just made an AMV in Vegas Pro, but when I save it its always a ridiculous size. At first it was over 4GB for a 3min vid but I managed to get it down to 700mb. I there a way I can choose what size I want to save it as? I only need it to be about 50mb.

I'm still very surprised that more people don't use Premiere Pro or Elements. It's such a good all-around program that, though a steep learning curve, is awesome once you get used to it/have the patience or computer to run it.

Ideal resolution for stuff I believe is 700x420, correct...?
.mkv are the best to work with if you're talking stuff you can't rip from a DVD, though they are much bigger. I just capture and stuff so I have one minute clips of what I actually need and not the other bullcrap.

As for compression, I don't know much about Sony Vegas, but Huffy UV is the ultimate loseless codec for compression and what have you when you're actually done with the AMV. It works on Premiere, but I don't know about Vegas.

I had exactly the same problem when I finished my first AMV in Sony Vegas... I solved the problem by importing the published AMV into Windows Movie Maker, and publishing it from there, selecting an appropriate quality that shrank the file size from about 700 MB to just under 50 MB. Didn't really lose too much picture quality, I don't think... (Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZUCOA2NFM4 and see if that's an acceptable picture quality)

Hope that helps. :-)

Depends where it goes. If it's for YouTube, then it needs to be as big or bigger then the screen size, but I'd go with as big. It's like 640xsomething.

I use Mac and have never used .mkv nor ever got it working on my Mac haha.

hmmmm...what are the screen dimensions?

720 x 480

And I cant redo in Movie Maker coz my Movie Maker is fucced and keeps freezing.

It also isnt recognised by my PS3, but all my other AMV's (from Movie Maker) play fine on mt PS3.

Haha, .mkv only work on VLC Player on my MacBook so, yeah. I'm really excited to get Final Cut Pro when I get up the money for it, though. For now Dell PC running Premiere at full POWWWWEEERR.

Dude, stop use WMM. It's terrible and makes me want to gag. MOOOVE OOOON.

No, of course I don't, I just felt like blindly stating that I would, in the future, like the program to utilize on my MacBook.

Of course I know how much it costs[$900 or 1,000 last I checked, though I know that I can get a student discount if I wanted...], try not to sound like an elitist Mac user like most of the Mac users in the world.
