In a discussion I came up on the subject RE:

most anime's would be better if it wasn't left at a 13 or 26 ep series at most, such as Trigun, Claymore, Berserk, the Manga for all of them is great and gets even better later own, however they end up just rounding of any anime series like those and spoiling the chance for some greater scenes of the Manga's to be animated, a shame really.

my comments RE:
Berserk stopping pissed me of that was a great dark anime. Left me off wanting more badly.

Air gear anime followed the manga story but stopped at the end of an story arc.
I can live with that and read on further now.

Others can do well in short spurt anime as in the case of the comedic ones. Where it is just suppose to go a season and round out the story well.
then may get picked back up for more.

The ? is if it is short can you live with them not tying off all the loose ends just to focus on the main story and end it? Just to only cover the basics.

For instance if they never finish counting back to zero in Bleach from the 100 back track chapters. Just to finish the main plot and end the series properly. and then came out with a paperback novel instead for the missing chapters but not by the official writer of bleach. like the B.B. murder cases for deathnote.

Do you find that acceptable?

I'd imagine popularity plays a huge factor as to whether or not an anime lasts or finishes early. Its like with Bleach because its so popular should it suddenly wrap up after the Winter War i'd imagined they'd be a huge outrage. Some of the anime that finish early even though their manga is still ongoing do so because the popularity just wasn't high enough, the rating were low and low ratings usually equals less money and we all what that would mean. Some animes we watch and like although we enjoy, we may easily be amongst the minority of the people that watched that anime it and if the people in Japan are not happy it is likely that anime won't go far.

There are however some anime that will simply end because they can't go any further in the story and sometimes its better it ends rather than dragging it out and tainting the overall anime.

I personally prefer my anime shows to at least have two seasons, usually after one season i'm just not satisfied especially if i really enjoyed it.

the best solution is for the japanese to quit using filler to get shows cancelled, by using season breaks like american tv does.

or..wait till a manga is nearly complete so there is no NEED to go into filler arcs and filler endings.

there are several cases of wtf r u thinking. like the original hellsing anime...less than 2 volumes out in a 10 volume MONTHLY manga and u start an anime? they got like 6 eps in and had to make the rest up.

but wrapping it up quickly is definately not the way to go...look at claymore. great show until they decided to conclude the story. the manga continues but instead of leaving it open, they slammed the door shut with an atrocious ending. u can't wrap up a complex plot in 3 episodes lol.

i just hope hellsing ultimate is the start of a trend. the anime fucked up as i mentioned before, so they started over in an ova series that follows the manga. now FMA is getting a new anime too...i really hope this continues and i can actually see the rest of TT and kenshin animated.

Anime is often used to boost the popularity of the manga series it is based off of. Having drawn out bore jobs like Bleach is not needed.

true too long is an over kill of story.
that creates the godforsaken fillers. which should come out after a series has ended not during for additional stories if the fans want it not to be forced on us then they would not have too make up rules because all would be established by the end of the series.

also TV just grabs a series sometimes to get something fresh like in the case of GRENADIER they had to make up an end because they surpassed the series that was in the manga.
not to boost the popularity but more of a fresh face and story to compete with.

To me, it's all up to personal preference. I don't mind long Anime series, like Bleach, Naruto, DGM and Reborn. I don't mind short ones either.

For some reason, I loved all the One Piece fillers.

It helps if you are at least 50% retarded.

Shorter animes are, more often, most enjoyable story wise.

Longer animes are there to milk all they can out of it, and are there like a sort "sitcom this week" sort of thing.

One Piece is still somewhat amusing, I give it that, but shorter animes I usually watch as opposed to Bleach/One Piece/Naruto. Just periodically check in and you wont missing anything.
