Well it is really kinda sucks when vampire is used as a tools to mention how a "undead" is so cool.. Even make the girls nowadays crazy about it! Damn it! Vampires are the one who gonna suck their blood away and yet twighlight make Vampires so cute and handsome.. Although there are some anime is making vampires so handsome and drive girls crazy, but the storyline is nice.. Twighlight? Nah.. Out of the list and it really sucks..

Firstly: It's written in the first person. This in itself is not too bad, provided the author is competant enough to write articulately which Meyer, to a degree is. The problem comes with the relationship, it makes it sound soooooooooooooooo soppy and overblown "I looked up into his eyes, and from that moment on, I fell into a deep abyss that only he could save me from. I wanted to, no, I needed to be with him forever." blah blah blah. It also means that you've got an overly hormonal, emotionally twisted girl who sees vampires as a narrator, hardly a reliable source of information lol.

@U25: Dude there's loads of fucking great vampire shit out there. Unfortunately Twilight is not one. I read a series a while back by an author called Christopher Pike called "The Last Vampire" (sounds ghey I know, turns out she wasn't the last one either LOL) but it was fucking immense, soooooooo violent they couldn't possibly have made a film adaptation the film classification board would have refused to rate it and locked it in a deep dark dungeon for all eternity.

Like seriously, she's under arrest, and pretends to need the toilet, but the policeman won't let her off the cuffs from him, and he's a licentious fat git so he thinks he can molest her whilst she's having a piss. She, "Alicia" a 3000 year old vampire (or yakshini in their native indian tongue, yeah shit me vampires originated in india, there's an original take for you), so evidently she isn't having any of this. She puts his head through the porcelain sink as if the sink were paper, wipes the bone, carteledge and grey matter off her fingers, dries her hands, does her hair, then fucking punches her way out of the toilets through the wall and calls a cab. Bad. Ass.

Then of course there's the Anne Rice novels, which, save for Queen of the Damned (which is a long rambling novel that attempts to go places and doesn't really) are all fucking awesome books. Blood and Gold and Pandora which are two partner books (one the tale of a 2000 year old vampire called Marius, the maker of Lestat, and the other the tale of Pandora, his consort in the early years who goes her own way eventually), are also awesome and have a far more realistic view of "eternal love" than Twilight. Marius and Pandora last 200 years together before falling out, bitching at each other and generally hating shit up. Then they go their seperate ways and only see each other again twice in a whole millenium, and even then things don't end well. Hot shit.

BTW if anyone says "Darren Shan" and the Cirque du Freak series of novels, NO. That crap was literally only good for wiping your ass with. The writing and concepts were even worse than Dan Brown and the Da Vinci Code (whose concepts were commendable, as are Angels and Demons, but the execution is horrific, a competant GCSE English Student could have done better).

The one thing that HAS been done to death, which appears in the twilight series, is the Vampire vs. Werewolf battle. Fuck me im sick of it. As if Underworld wasn't bad enough (oh yeah Rise of the Lycans, WTF IS THAT SHIT?).

On top of that, it was written for 13 year old girls.

/rant.

Well, personally I'm going to have to go for Twilight. Admittedly both HP and Tw. read like they were written by a 12 year old, but there are several things that just make Twilight that bit worse:
-It's a love story. Okay, yeah I get that it portrays vampires in a sexier view, but seriously, vampirism is about lust and sex (original Dracula, love story? no, he's lusting after Mina purely cus she looks like his wife, if he "loved" her he wouldnt be fucking and have sired Lucy, and then there's Nosferatu, movie adaptation, but again count orlock just wants to fuck and suck these chicks). Not only that, the narrator is so naive, "I want to be with you forever!" Well, forever's an awefully long time, and you don't know, in a coupla years/decades you'll probably be arguing and hating each other etc etc.
-It's written in first person, from the p.o.v. of a "im on the fringes of social society" chick. The 1st person just amplifies the horrific nature of the already poorly written passages that feel like they've been written by a 12 year old, or maybe even shat out by a team of monkeys.
-The whole James thing comes out of nowhere. They go to play baseball during the storm, then bam OMG we're in amazing danger, from one vampire, when there's six of us. If they'd all stayed together and boxed her in there would have been no problem. It feels as if she just wanted to chuck in some actio somewhere to quicken the pace, but its done so poorly and haphazardly.
-Then there's the "clan" of vampires. Dammit, even Underworld (which was horrific) did Vampire clans/covens better. Its not even a clan, its just a family, and its quite obvious as soon as you discover that there's a bunch of weird people who keep to themselves, well, it's not going to end prettily. And like she'd be the first one to figure it out? Any superstitous high school kid with a vague knowledge of mythology could have figured that.
-The biting... just one bite? Is enough to turn anyone into a vampire? This is just personal taste by I personally would rather go with anne rice, where there has to be an exchange of blood, not just some zombie-esqu I bite you and you get infected from my saliva, which spoils the sexiness of it.
-And finally, and this one is my personal favourite: OMG As if Vampires verses Werewolves hasn't been done before already. About as original as... dear lord, I can't actually think of anything unoriginal enough to compare this too...

Potter mainly sucks for me because she makes the reign of terror of Voldemort and his death eaters (before the story starts) out to be so incredibly horrific and violent and nasty, when its about as tame as a cat playing with a ball of wool. The best thing she could do is rewrite the books specifically aimed at adults as opposed to children, throw in the violence, the nightmare situations, the darkness, murkyness, and there has to be sex. I'm not talking from a letcherous pov here, sex and sexual interaction are a major part of growing up and the primary place where this interaction happens on an everyday level is school.

But yeah, still, Twilight is the worst thing to happen to the vampire genre since Underworld (but at least that had Bill Nighy in, who is amazing). You want vampire love stories? Go read Blood and Gold and Pandora by Anne Rice. They could beat seven shades of blue out of the Meyer series with their metaphorical booky arms tied behind their backs.

I don't like Twilight NOT because of the romance. But because the vampire powers and fights themselves are just "stupid and inferior" to me.
I watched an asian drama called My Date with a vampire. Its so popular that they remake the series 3 times.
The vampires in My date with a vampire are VASTLY superior than the ones in Twilight.
They fight like Dragonball characters and like Rock Lee very very fast. Destroy airplanes with ONE punch. They can also use time travel, or sent other people to another dimension kind of like kakashi's technique but much faster. Thats why I don't like to watch other vampire/romance/action packed shows. The ONLY exception is Van Helsing yeah though Dracula is inferior to My date with a vampire show's vampires, its still a pretty amazing story with good characters and plot development. But I don't see that in Twilight. But yeah Twilight will probably only remain good as a book.

Personally, I don't get the appeal. Emo vampires as tortured heroes are not attractive at all. I used to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer and remember hating Angel. He only got interesting when he reverted to Angelus.

Now when it is on the movie, Edward Cullen is the vampire and this made all girls getting more crazy for the story and VAMPIRES..
