What is worse: Slavery or The Holocaust?

Recently in a History lesson we watched a video about the Holocaust and me and my friends got into an argument, which one was worse, the holocaust or slavery, I won't say what I think, that might influence you, but what do you think was worse? Tell me some facts and opinions and vote in my poll please.

Who gives a shit, stop stretching out the horrors of the past. All we need to know from history is how to stop the same mistakes from happening again, not to uncover who to point the finger at.

Vic's post pretty much summarizes my feelings on the issue. Slavery may be morally horrible to us now, but it was common practice in most societies throughout history, whereas the Holocaust was a deliberate attempt to destroy an entire group of people. Also, it's worth mentioning that slave labor was used by Nazi Germany, often before executing the slave-laborers as part of the Holocaust. Of course both were horrible things, so it's hard to rate one over the other.

Although common, slaves are often mistreated horribly similar to those who were in the holocaust. They are often beaten, raped, mutilated, et cetera. In my honest opinion this is a dumb topic because, comparing and contrasting the severity of what is more horrible is incomparable.

I agree with Holocaust. Also with slavery, depending on what system you were in, you had a chance to earn your freedom or become free and/or become a citazen. The Holocaust was genocide. Genocide is more morrally unacceptable to many cultures than slavery.

We hardly ever learn about what the Indians went through in school. It isn't taught as much as those two events. But that type of stuff happens all around the world and still is happening today. Both slavery and genocide are being committed today.

I guess it is similar. But it is the slavery that the Greeks and Romans practise. At least you were a citazen in the Roman one, not in the Greek. Romans also took on their freed slaves as clients and the masters were patrons of those clients.

Something that is unfortunate but true. Just goes to show that the US government could never keep their word when it comes to the native peoples of the land they call home. As I understand it, many tribes and individuals are still very angry and upset over it but are learning to overcome that. At least the lokota peoples at the play The Three Voices when it performed at my college said that that was their point of view.
