It has been made obvious to me that Hollow Ichigo will be returning soon to save scrub-ichigo from certain demise at the hands of Ulquiorra. I think this would explain Ulquiorra's testing of Ichigo's resolve. I think plot no-jutsu will reveal Ichigo to be more of a hollow than we thought.
