Since most of the Shinigami appear to have few if any memories of their life before waking up in Rukongai, you have to wonder who they could have been. Who do you think the Shinigami were? It can be anyone from real world history to novels, anime/manga, tv, movies or comic books. It can be funny or serious, whatever you feel like.
Zaraki Kenpachi - Miyamoto Musashi, legendary Japanese Samurai who wrote the Book of Five Rings and revolutionized the Bushido code and the way of the Samurai. Was said to have introduced the philosophy of going into combat already accepting that you would die, thus freeing the warrior to fight with everything they were.
Hitsugaya Toshiro - Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. Both are young prodigies who have a short temper when it comes to their height.
Shiba Kukaku - Tsunade from Naruto. Well-endowed, alchoholic, short-tempered, and have an insanely strong punch. (I know Kukaku is a noble so she was born in Seireitei, but it fits her so I'm using it)
