American Death Note Movie In Development
Universal Pictures has revealed that Vertigo Entertainment is developing an American live action film adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s supernatural suspense manga story Death Note. The Death Note franchise has already spawned three live action films in Japan. Brothers Vlas and Charles Parlapanides have been hired to construct a screenplay for an American Death Note feature.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vertigo Entertainment (no relation to DC Comics' Vertigo imprint or the United Kingdom's Vertigo Films) has developed or is developing remakes of Ju-on (The Grudge), Dark Water, Infernal Affairs (The Departed), Gin gwai (The Eye), Shutter, My Sassy Girl, Jungdok (Possession), and Janghwa, Hongryeon (The Uninvited). The Parlapanides brothers are writers and executive producers of Undercover, an update of the 21 Jump Street television series which is under development for The CW network.

The Death Note manga has already been adapted into two Japanese live-action films with one spinoff film, an animated television series, assorted television specials, and novels. Viz Media is releasing the manga, the anime series, and a novel, while Viz Pictures released the first Japanese live-action film in theaters in May.

The person they wish to play Light Yagami is none other than Disney's own: Zac Effron. Image 0_o 0_o

rumoured director-- Bryan Bertino- is known for his film "The Strangers" Which only gained a 41% on Rotten Tomatoes, is said to be directing it. He is surely planning on making this a horror film, which any REAL Death Note fan knows that it is not.

i really like the death note anime and there is no way zac could play light, light is too dark of a character for a disney star to play. and i dont even think that the reason he might play light is because he fits the role but, i think his managers are just trying to get him as much exposer as he can get, they also probably want to see if he can play a role like this to see what he might play in in the future.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! As a big fan of death note I would not like to see the person playing Light prance around singing like a freaking fairy in high school musical. He doesn't have the right swag for it, I pray it doesn't happen it would ruin the movie...i could be wrong but I stand by my opinion.

lol
well he does look the part, and Light is quite the drama queen... I dunno, I honestly don't care about Death Note enough to feel strongly about it. It's always possible he'll do well with it. I'd imagine such a role would be so much fun to play that it would be worth it to try hard and do it well. I mean, I'd love to play a Magnificent Bastard...

A month ago, I heard Zac were going to be casted as Sousuke in Full Metal Panic. Now, as Light in Death Note??

I feel like ROFL-ing right now, what's with him and every anime live-action?? Has the Hollywood producers not learn anything how BADLY Dragonball Evolution and the new Street Fighter live-action movie were?

Anyway, petition never works. They never do. Because people don't care. Simply like that.

You would be surprised to know how much people did like it a lot. I have yet to see it though.

You got to be fucking kidding me, is this some kind of a sick joke?

First they are trying to insult Full Metal Panic fans with him playing Sousuke and now Death Note fans too. That Zac of a shit, where did he come from, form a high school musical movie, and now he is the biggest newcomer in Hollywood. Oh my God, Hollywood days are numbered.

He admittedly fits the picture beyond perfectly. I think everyone's over-reacting at this. Yeah, he plays in Disney Films. Yeah, they're all ridiculously happy and shiny and what-not, which is a complete juxtaposition to what Death Note will (And should) be. But just becaue his current career reflects little to none of what Light is in Death Note doesn't mean he's completely incapable of the role. For all we're aware of Efron could have started acting for this exact opportunity or something.

I wouldn't debase this entire film or his role just as a result this.

just no. how could the star of a crappy movie be in the live action version of one of my favorite series. and if Mily Cyrus or Vanessa Ann Hudgens plays Misa I will go crazy.

I haven't seen them either, but yes, I'd be f-ing shit surprised why would people like those badly done live-actions. Their taste should've been better

Sorry, but who the FUCK is "Zac Efron"?

I'd normally say "why the hell not", but the specter of G-Saviour and that lame new Dragonball movie are kinda telling me "FUCK NO."

So I'll say no.

Whoa, they are really turning to anime as an inspiration for films.

I don't really care if he does it or not, i'll reserve judgement for later.

The movie is going to be terrible anyway. Casting Zac Efron is just to draw your eye away from its many other flaws. If it was that easy to make an anime/manga story into live-action then it should just be LA in the first place. Besides there already are 3 live action Death Note movies to watch so what's there to bitch about? Besides them being bad in the first place.

I agree he does look the part i just don't think he should try to test his acting on a dark role like light's. I don't know if he has that kind of talent so I don't want to find out he doesn't in this movie.

Stick to the manga or anime. Who cares what Zac is doing... Have the kid from Twilight play Light. I hear he is much better than Zac. Besides, he fits the part. Not that I watched twilight or anything and liked it....
