I don't know exactly what she wants, so I'm just going to get her a card and take her to this Indian restaurant that she likes.

If all else fails just give her a card and get something else later.

Blackberry Storm! You sad bastards are not creative. A card? Please... If your mother talks on the phone, texts often, often reads her emails she receives, wants to listen to music while on the go as well, then get her a Blackberry. That is what I did. All in one and cost effective. It is even on a plan with unlimited Internet and text. I always give the best gifts. :D

My mother doesn't really go for big expensive gifts. She likes to read so I'll probably get her a book she likes.

See sometimes something simple can get the job done.

I thought holiday-related threads went in the spam section, not current events.

I haven't spoken to my mother in over 10 years, and she can be rotting in the ground for all I care.

Usually I get my mom a rock for any holiday. Since I'm a geologist, there are many different kinds of specimens that I can get her. I usually go for something shiny and pretty because she likes cool rocks. It doesn't have to be expensive or gem quality, I can just go walking around and find something interesting and give it to her with an explanation of what I think it is.

I feel for you... I'm far-far-away from my mom too... My poor mom is house sitting for my little sister in LA, while my little sister is off in Europe visiting one of my older sisters... so I'm going to call my mom and I'm working on some artwork for her :) I like to do personal things... make things and send cards... I think tomorrow or rather today I'll go hunting for cards and I'll send them to her house so she'll get them when she's home... I wish I had been thinking otherwise I would have mailed them to my sister's place... oh well... you know what they say about hindsight :)
