I've searched the boards for a thread about language interpretation, but my Search Fu is weaker than most.
So how about it? What are some of the differences between the original Japanese script and the English translation?
After watching both the subtitled and dubbed versions of Bleach, I've noticed a difference in translation for the term Shinigami.
In every translation I've seen, it is stated literally as "Death God"
In the English dubbed version, the term "Soul Reaper" is used instead of the direct translation.
Was "Soul Reaper" used, because the term "Death God" might be considered blasphemous in a mostly christian culture?
Or does the direct translation "Death God" give the wrong impression as to it's true meaning?
Also, I've noticed that the English dubbed version changes the polite language as well.
For example, Orihime calls Ichigo Kurosaki, "Kurosaki-Kun", which is his surname (last name). The English dub changes this to "Ichigo", because of English social convention.
I'd love to hear some more examples and explanations from others.
