"Hai Neko" = "Hello Kitty"?

I just noticed today...
Matsumoto's zan is called "Hai Neko"
In japanese you can translate that as "Hello Kitty" XD

Yeah, it can be translated as that, but according to manga canon, her Zanpakutou's name means "Ash Cat". Haineko

IMO "Hello Kitty" is a somewhat distorted translation.
hai may be translated as hello in some situations but it is just a polite positive response. And of course it also means ash among others things (different kanjis).
Anyway, I dont think a japanese person would greet someone with: hai "name"-san.
I could be wrong, but it doesnt sound right.

But I think you can make a "funny" translation:
As a short answer to a question "hai neko" could mean: Yes, it's a cat!

Brought this up long ago, wish I could find that post. Haineko could also mean "willing lesbian" :amused: . Neko could mean geisha or submissive partner of a homosexual relationship. And from my understanding hai could be a way to say they're ready to go or start. To me, a nice play on words.....

"Ash Cat" is the official meaning in Bleach's case, but any other translation is still befitting of Rangiku somehow anyway.
