i changed the format using the dvd santa program, qualitys better than i expected.:) now my only problem is the subtitles are halfway between the bottom of my television so i can only see half the word, dont know if i need to change the resolution or if its just my type of television mines an older type kind of curved, i figure if i had a more square one like the newer hdtv types i could see the whole word. don't know if anyone knows anything about this but any help is appreciated.

Probably a resolution problem. (I've never convert stuffs to dvd format)
From another forum:
This is called overscanning on the TV. It's understood that about 10% of the image is lost beyond the visible borders of the screen. Fansubbers don't tend to respect that, and place their subtitles very low on the video, often right near the bottom of the screen. This is a problem, when you want to view the episodes on a TV screen. The problem you're running into with resizing is that the size of DVD video is 720 x 480 all the time, so it's resizing your scaled down video back to full-screen.
Now, I know there's ways to add black-border on the PC before encoding, as there's a wealth of free tinkering tools for video. Not sure what you'd do on the Mac. I have one, and am quite familiar with it, but don't know what I'd do—mainly because I don't burn anime to set-top DVD player compatible DVDs.
Use Divx to DVD and set it as Fullscreen on options there you'll get the full screen...

i actually have the same problem when i switch my computer over to view on my tv. Its a resolution problem. An easy fix would be to set it as a 16:9 (widescreen) which you can do in dvdsanta and you wont have a problem with the subs being cut off the screen.
so i didnt relize that this post was from so long ago lol, but if anyone still has problems at least this will help
