Hate Dragonball? Well guess what...

You're an idiot. Thats right, an increasing amount of DBZ haters have been popping up lately, and its pretty funny to see their rants. One went as far as making a DBZ vs Hime thread...

Moving on, I'll let you Dragonball haters in on a little secret: The Dragonball manga is one of the most revolutionary mangas ever, and it defines the shounen genre.
With a few exceptions, every shounen manga follows the Dragonball format in some way. Train, Fight, lose/win, train, fight. Good guy wins in the end. Prime example: Bleach.
Not only that, pretty much all of those mangas that follow the DB format, suck in comparison. Prime Example: Bleach.
And unlike these stereotypical shounens which strive to have a plot and insist on the fact that the main character won't be the one that defeats the villain (which we all know is a load of horseshit), Dragonball didn't pretend to be anything more than it was. It was a Action Fighter. Plain and simple. That said, we still knew everything there was to know about the entire cast, since we basically met them when they were 10 and followed them until they were 40. The same cannot be said about Bleach, where we know little to nothing about the majority of the characters.
Lots of haters like to whine about how the characters were too strong, or about how they hated Goku, and he was overrated. Yeah, the characters were strong, yeah, Goku is annoying at times, but guess what, he can solo a lot of your favorite mangas. (So try to stop making Goku vs threads ok?)
Its scary to think how much better Dragonball would have been if Toriyama would have been able to do what he wanted instead of having to succumb to the fans and their demands. But we still got 3 really good arcs with Adult Goku, not to mention all of the good arcs with kid Goku. The Saiyan Saga, the Frieza Saga, and the Cell Saga all produced great characters and great fights like:
Not only were these fights great, we also got movies. A lot of them. Some were bad, some were great. Some were lousy but still gave us great characters (some which had no business losing) like Broly, Bardock, Bojack, and Cooler.
Now, there are some negatives to the Dragonball legacy (just like there are plenty of negatives to every manga, especially shounens) one of which being the fact that as I stated earlier Toriyama had to submit to fan service. Which left us with the Buu Saga. Which sucked massively. Then there is the non-Toriyama related Dragonbal GT, which also sucked massively.
However both of these negatives did come with a plus, they both gave us characters we could kick ass with in the 100 or so Dragonball video games. SSJ4 Gogeta is pretty much unstoppable in every game he appears in.
So lets recap, Dragonball gave us a great manga to read, great movies to watch, and great video games to play, as well as set the standard for all the stereotypical shounens we have to suffer through today, ie Bleach Naruto and One Piece, all of which suck in comparison.
To deny the influence of Toriyama pretty much solidifies the fact that you are an ignorant, retarded anime fan and should stop posting on BE, or simply limit your posting to the rukia fc.

I can't imagine how someone could not like DBZ. It is definitely one of the best if not the best animes or shows ever.

Pretty much all of my friends who watch anime say that DB/DBZ sucks, though I guess the blog is re: the manga exclusively? I gave the manga a shot (still need to finish it at some point..) and it's just like you said, I took it for what it was. It didn't try to be anything other than it was, which was what I loved about it. Want something similar to Dragonball? Dragonball. Good post, Vic. Cheers.

I'm Disgusted That people Hate that GENIUS Series. Dragon Ball was the greatest series of it's time and whenever i hear a new manga's coming out i always ask if it's a new Dragon Ball Saga. Its hard to not like that show. even people i NEVER expected to like Anime or Manga said that they not only Heard of Dragon Ball, but loved its idea and concept. i can put up with it if they haven't watched it before. But to watch it and NOT LIKE IT...i kinda feel sorry for them. you don't get too many chances to see works of revolution. just reading this made me wanna PUNCH their lights out.

Yeah, I grew up on DBZ its seriously one of the best animes, we didn`t have any in Estonia so i watched it on RTL 2 ( a german channel)
People who say DBZ sucks are fucktards and should be gagged. I mean whats there not to love? Someone comes, kicks the shit out of the other guy with major explosions everywhere and gets the fuck out. End of story. Great anime no matter what the idiots say. |

I do not 'hate' DB, but I dislike it. I will give you that it was pretty revolutionary and has spawned some time tested and true ideas used by multitudes of other shows and mangas.
HOLY CRAP THIS IS OLD! Jeez, and it showed at the top of my list of blogs today..... |
