HOLY SHIT AIDAN. WHY, WHY?

I agree that it is the parents' job to some extent to keep their kids from accessing that kind of thing. Yes, I'm not going to deny that it's easy as hell to stumble across 18+ material on the internet right now, but I think that also parents need to be better at controlling their kids. My parents didn't freak out about the amount of violence on TV. Know what they did? They just had my sister and I watch PBS kids shows, educational TV. They laid down the rules when we were little, and before long, that was the kind of thing that interested us. Yes, I missed out a bit on 90's culture because I wasn't watching Nickelodeon or whatever, but I learned a lot and grew to have an appreciation for the teaching power of television. Plus, we watched a few shows each day after school then turned the TV off. Granted the Internet wasn't as widespread when I was a kid, so that wasn't as big a deal, but that's a similar sort of thing. If you're a good parent, your kids will respect the rules you set down. I think parents are getting lazy and letting their kids spend hours and hours on devices hooked up to the Internet and then wondering why their kids exhibit symptoms of the aggression of Anonymous.

I dunno about the first part, but I don't think it's the government's job to censor pornography. It should be up to the parents or whoever.

Do you think that absolute freedom of speech applies on the Internet, or do you think that the people who own the servers and/or other hardware supporting the Internet have a right or responsibility to do some censorship, ie in the name of preventing terrorism or online predators, or more broadly, to avoid children being exposed to pornography, etc? Do you think monitoring those types of activities is at all a slippery slope into more oppressive censorship, or do you think a bit is necessary for the common good?

Since i'm against censorship of any form i'd gladly pay for the freedom and anonymity

Paid service. I'd be pissed off if I'd have to actually buy videos and music. Is more expensive than the monthly internet bill.
