Last time I checked Judas Priest sound totally different from Iron Maiden and yet they are both Heavy Metal.
If we will compare Godsmack with Sirenia you'll see how different they are, the only thing they have in common is "the sense" of being metal. All bands are different man, they all use very different techniques, so don't try to prove me that Industrial is less metal. I hope I don't have to explain you what's that sense of being metal.
