It was just an example of what he could do. He has other options like freezing his body, or freezing the part of his body that was cut, reforming his limbs with ice (so ice limbs) then unleashing some move on Hali. The limb thing is plausible since his Zanpaktou can use the water in the air indefinitely. The Zanpaktou is connected to the user's spirit force, and Hitsugaya has quite a bit (seen especially from when he was a kid) so who knows, it could be healed as well.

I also hope its not some kind of ice clone. As much as I like Hitsugaya, that would be copying Sub Zero like you said or something out of Naruto.

I just want to see more K-town fighting, im tired of HM.

Of course there's water and moisture everywhere in the atmosphere, but it's not like Halibel is made of water. The most Hitsugaya could do is annoy her with ice. Yes, Luppi got his resureccion smashed by Hitsugaya's ice, but it did him no serious damage, and he was weaker than Grimmjow (the real sexta espada). Someone like Halibel isn't going to be bothered by an attack like that.

Halibel completely outranks Toshirou in speed and strength, and her spiritual pressure makes Hitsugaya like an ant in comparison. There was no water involved in the attack she used to one-shot him, so even if she does have water-based attacks that Hitsugaya could nullify, it wouldn't do him any good. And if she can use cero-oscuras then Toshi is dust. Even if he replenishes his bankai and his body with ice, he'll just get wrecked all over again.

Finally, I'm not saying Hitsu's not going to recover from his wounds, we all know he will eventually, but the only person in the human world who could help him now is Hachi, and by the time he steps in to heal Toshi, someone else will have taken care of Halibel. Ichigo survived the hole in his chest because of his dormant hollow powers. Hitsu doesn't have any hollow powers to save him.

You make good points, but Hitsugaya is a low-tier captain (the weakest in the Gotei 13). Someone of Halibel's level is too much for him to handle.

Of course, I could be completely wrong, but we won't know for sure until the next chapter.

Hitsuguya doesn't have a hollow in him, nor is he the main character. Plus most wounds that we've seen in Bleach haven't been anywhere near as extreme as this. Mayuri having a hole put in him and his left arm taken off could possibly compare, but even if he survived Mayuri was basically removed from the battle and had to liquify and regen over a period of several days. Then there's ulquiorra whose had most of his body blown away, but he has high speed regen abilities and his power naturally far outstrips Hitsuguya. The most obvious comparison is Grand Fisher getting bisected by Isshin just as a matter of fact, he was the last character (and the first named one) to get bisected.

As for the link, Luppi isn'tm missing any body parts, and he doesn't looked shocked or drained or damaged, he's is same old cocky effeminate self.

Yeah I know what you are saying. Although I do not agree with Hitsu being the weakest of the captains (i'd honestly say Kommo or Mayuri is the weakest) he certainly is not the strongest of them. Hali -is- much more powerful then Toush right now I think, unless he was holding back something, but like you said we won't know till next chapter or later (since its probably going to go to soi-fon).

Though, just to point out, since her release was water, im sure she does have some water type moves or something similar. Who knows, perhaps Hitsu got his body bitten off by some magical air shark lol. I think that anyone getting frozen solid and then being shattered would die, but yeah...your probably right that it may or may not be enough to stop her.

Look again. His entire release is gone, he's missing fingers, his other hand "looks" like its gone (the one thats shadowed) and while he is cocky, is speech is more ragged.

And yeah, Mayuri is a close example. In fact, Mayuri was worse. He was actually missing major organs while Hitsugaya is missing at the most part of his ribs and 2 limbs.

Well, that movie wasn't cannon (and kind of sucked to be honest) but god help us I hope that doesn't happen. If it does I don't know...but I think i'll throw my computer out the window. Thats just freaking stupid. "RAWR ICE DRAGON POWA!"

I working under the assumption that KT won't let Hitsugaya die. I think his zan may go into a life saving last ditch mode and form something of an ice tomb in which either both halves of him are brought together and healed or that heals his "nick". Then maybe the ice grows at a ridiculous rate to keep him safe. Hmmm just a thought.

I will only say this, if Hits. comes out of this one and counterattacks Halibel and beats her then we all know the fate of the other 2 remaining Espadas.

The Zan saving him is a remote possibility, but it does seem probable.

I could imagine his zan covering him totally in an ice-tomb as suggested, then the ice rapidly spreads to Halibel. It's however going to be minimal damage on her though. If this really happens then I doubt hes coming back anytime soon; more likely entering some prolonged deep state of hibernation/cryogenic shit as his zan spirit heals him.
