Well he didn't mean to do it but hey if it didn't happen he would have just given up and joined the special zone and never overthrow britiania

There is no "third season" per se, at least not in the sense of a sequel to R2.

Supposedly a side-story to R1 is being animated called Code Geass Gaiden Bōkoku no Akito, set on the EU front in 2017. There hasn't been any news on that in ages though.

Yeah, Euphie's death was a necessary one. Although, if she hadn't have died Nina wouldn't have become even more of a crazy psycho racist bitch.
On the other hand, Suzaku wouldn't have gone batshit crazy and actually acted like he had some balls.
Besides, Euphie's death must be the only time Lelouch is ever seen to regret any of his actions, even over Geassing his own sister.
