Opinions on Death Penalty?

i see where you are coming from - but i would say parking/speeding tickets are at least supposed to benefit society - ie that money is taken in by the government and allegedly spent on highway/road maintenance. though who knows if this actually happens

Honestly, I would rather die than spend 30 years of my life on a wrong conviction charge. The mental anguish, the loss of time, and a new world would not be something I'd like. I go to jail now, out when I am 50+? Fuck it, kill me. Life has already passed and once I get out, I would be trying to get a job, living off of meager money, all with the, "oh! lol, we had the wrong guy, you were right!"

Existing in a prison full of men with life-sentences and in a dank, dark, hot/cold room with a metal toilet is something I would dread.

Not to demean your statement, but (I'll need to research to confirm) I do believe if you are wrongly convicted of a crime the government pays you amends for your time and helps with rehabilitation. I think I remember reading/seeing something were a man was wrongly accused of murder and recieved $60,000 for every year he was in prison. Just a side note though.

60k/year? If it is per year. If it is 60k multiplied by the number of years comes out towards 1.8 million which will only cover you until you start to reach your declining years, that is if you spent 60k/year. The cost of life might be higher as well, etc..., it still is not worth it in my eyes.

Yeah it was per year. Did a quick google search and large sums of money are commonly distributed to the wrongly convicted. Couldn't find anything consistent though. I do agree though it isn't worth it. Reminds me of the short story The Bet

Dexter is keeping people safe while not hurting innocent people. The criminals he kills continue to hurt people even after their brush with the law. They learn nothing. He goes after murderers, drug deals, pedophiles. How is that a bad thing?
I'm not saying the police and society should make it easy for a man to hunt them down. But if caught they should consider why the person did it when assigning a punishment.
Ruining credit, no that isn't worthy of death. I'm talking about chopping people up and doing horrible things. Not stealing.

I'll have a better retort after rereading the previous posts, but as for Dexter he killed a man for taking pictures of his kids. And on more than one occasion an innocent man was kiled because of Dexter whether directly or indirectly.

I don't think Death Penalty is an option. We are not to decide that and anyways they get too easy with that. Prison for life without grace it's far more better and painful and they just deserve that, rapists and mooncalf killers and such.

Let's say someone murders your father: You would rather them stay in prison with a chance of "rehabilitation" and parole? I would want them erased from the planet they don't deserve to be here at all. Sure suffering is great but it's more about them not getting a second chance at all. Not being able to relive their crimes and enjoy it. Who says they will repent?
I watch a lot of these American Justice shows this old man killed his neighbour over a rock. A ROCK. Not with a rock they were arguing about a rock and the man shot him AND shot his wife in the back when she was screaming for help on the phone with 911. He felt no remorse the court asked him if he felt bad because he told them it was an accident and he said no I don't feel bad because I didn't like him.
The guy isn't going to repent in prison he's happy he killed his neighbour.
